Rice Products on Nutrada

On Nutrada, buyers can source a wide range of rice types, including staple grains and value-added by-products:

Grain Type and Broken Percentage

Form/TypeWhat it means for procurementTypical application
Long grain (Basmati, Jasmine)Requires origin verification and grain length measurement (≥7 mm). Basmati and Hom Mali hold protected geographical indications.Premium retail, food service, ethnic markets
Medium grain (Arborio, Carnaroli)Italian risotto varieties require high starch content and intact grain structure. Substitution between varieties affects cooking performance.Risotto production, food service
Short grain (Sushi, Glutinous)High amylopectin content creates sticky texture. Glutinous rice contains no gluten despite the name.Sushi production, Asian desserts, rice paper
Broken riceGraded by percentage of broken grains (5%, 10%, 25%, 100%). Lower grades cost less but affect texture in whole-grain applications.Brewing, pet food, processed foods, porridge
Brown riceBran layer intact. Shorter shelf life than white rice due to oil content in bran. Requires pest control documentation.Health food retail, whole grain products
ParboiledSteamed before milling. Firmer texture and higher nutrient retention than white rice. Processing must be verified in supplier audit.Food service, canned products, quick-cook retail

Bulk Rice

Rice absorbs moisture and odours during storage and transport. Suppliers usually ship in 25 kg woven polypropylene bags, big bags up to 1000 kg, or bulk containers for high-volume orders. Moisture content at delivery must not exceed 14% to prevent mould growth during storage. Buyers must confirm broken percentage tolerance with suppliers before placing orders, as discrepancies between contracted and delivered grades are a common dispute in rice procurement.

Organic Rice

India, Thailand, Italy, and Spain supply EU Organic and USDA NOP certified rice across basmati, jasmine, arborio, and brown rice varieties. Dual certification is available from most origins, though organic basmati supply from Pakistan remains limited compared to India. Organic rice is priced 20–40% higher than conventional qualities depending on variety and origin.

Rice Private Label

Suppliers package rice in retail formats including stand-up pouches, gusseted bags, and pillow bags from 500 g to 10 kg. MOQ for private label packaging starts at 500 kg to 1 tonne compared to 5–10 tonnes for bulk orders. Buyers must specify grain type, broken percentage, and origin before production starts, as these cannot be adjusted mid-run without re-labelling.

Rice Manufacturers

Rice manufacturers are concentrated in India, Thailand, Pakistan, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, and the United States, each specialising in varieties suited to local growing conditions.

Buyers should request Certificate of Origin, phytosanitary certificates, and pesticide residue test reports for each shipment, as maximum residue limits differ between the EU and destination markets.

Nutrada lists GFSI-certified rice suppliers covering long, medium, and short grain varieties across conventional and organic supply. All orders are placed directly with certified suppliers, with no intermediary.
