About Kahlon Farms Ltd.
Sohan Kahlon and his son, Gordie Kahlon, began their farming venture in 1983 with a modest 14-acre raspberry field in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Sohan first arrived in Canada from Punjab in 1971, followed by his family in 1977. Eager to build a new life, they initially settled in Quesnel, BC, before relocating to Abbotsford in 1983 to pursue farming. Starting out was not easy. The farm operated under heavy financial pressure with interest rates at 14%. Limited access to irrigation made traditional overhead watering impossible, so they implemented a drip irrigation system instead. Low berry prices in 1983 further strained their finances. Due to the poor returns from hand-picking berries, Kahlon Farms became one of the first in the area to invest in a mechanical berry harvester in 1988. As often happens, difficult times sparked innovation, which led to new opportunities. Over the years, Kahlon Farms expanded steadily. Abbotsford proved to be an ideal community for farming, raising a family, and building strong industry connections. The farm has remained active in supporting local grower groups and agricultural initiatives, fostering long-term relationships with customers, employees, and partners. Today, with the third generation contributing to the business, Kahlon Farms looks forward to continuing its tradition of providing safe, premium-quality berries.
