About Capfruit
The lychee (Litchi chinensis) is a tropical fruit tree originally from China, particularly the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, and Yunnan, where it has been grown for over 2,100 years. Over time, it spread to other tropical areas, including Cambodia, India, Vietnam, and Madagascar. The name “lychee” entered the French language in 1721, derived from the Chinese “li-chi” and adapted through the Portuguese “letchia,” reflecting early maritime trade with China. In the northern hemisphere, lychees are typically enjoyed in Asia during the summer, while in Europe, they are especially popular in winter—often around the holidays—thanks to imports from southern hemisphere countries.
