About Taris Fig Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union

Tariş Fig Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union is one of Turkey’s oldest and most respected agricultural cooperatives. It was founded to help farmers in the Aegean Region who faced difficulties marketing their products due to monopolies in the İzmir Fruit Bazaar. In 1912, fig producers held congresses in Germencik and Aydın to discuss forming a cooperative. This led to the creation of the Cooperative Aydın Fig Producers Joint Stock Company on August 21, 1915. That date is now celebrated as the official founding day of Tariş. The cooperative was founded by leaders like Nazmi Topçuoğlu, Kazım Nuri Çörüş, and Ahmet Sarı. Since then, Tariş has grown to support thousands of farmers and promote fairtrade practices across local and international markets. The cooperative helps producers receive fair prices and maintain high product quality. The word TARİŞ is formed from the first syllables of Tarım Bank and İş Bank, two institutions that supported the cooperative in its early years. Today, Tariş continues to play a key role in agricultural development and farmer support in Turkey.
