Demos Ciclitira Ltd has been importing dried fruit into the UK for more than a hundred years, though its origins go back even further. The story begins in Greece, where six brothers worked as packers of Greek currants. One of them, Theodore Ciclitira, moved to England and established Ciclitira and Co., with offices in Boltoph Lane in the City of London, conveniently close to the Port of London.

Demos Ciclitira, born in 1883, helped manage the London office before launching his own business in 1926 on Monument Street, EC3. In the years leading up to the Second World War, the company flourished, focusing on Greek currants and importing through the ports of London, Bristol, and Liverpool.
