Hemp seed oil sourcing starts with one decision: cold-pressed or refined. The grade determines colour, flavour, shelf life, and application fit, and the wrong grade cannot be corrected further down the production process. Nutrada lists GFSI-certified bulk hemp seed oil suppliers from Canada, France, and the Netherlands, filterable by grade, origin, and certification, so you can match specification to supplier before placing an order.

| Form | Key characteristic | Primary application |
| Cold-pressed hemp seed oil | Deep green colour; omega-3/omega-6 ratio ~1:3; lower smoke point (~165°C); sensitive to heat and light | Salad dressings, supplements, cosmetics, raw food applications |
| Refined hemp seed oil | Neutral colour and flavour; longer shelf life; higher oxidative stability | Large-scale food production, cosmetic base oils |
Hemp seed oil has a low smoke point and is not suitable for high-heat cooking applications. For high-heat stable oils in the same category, avocado oil and coconut oil cover refined grades with smoke points above 200°C.
Oxidative stability is the primary storage risk for cold-pressed hemp seed oil. Bulk supply should be nitrogen-flushed, stored in cool dark conditions (below 15°C), and used within 12 months of pressing.
Standard bulk packaging is 190 kg steel drums or 1,000 L IBC totes; cold-pressed grades should be packed in opaque or UV-blocking containers to protect against light degradation during storage and transit.
Request the peroxide value and free fatty acid content on the Certificate of Analysis as standard intake parameters. Refined hemp seed oil carries better ambient stability but still benefits from dark storage.
Certified organic cold-pressed hemp seed oil is available from Canadian and French origins under EU Organic and USDA NOP certification.
Cold-pressed hemp seed oil in 250 ml and 500 ml amber glass bottles is the standard private label retail format; dark glass is a packaging requirement, not a preference, given the oil's light sensitivity.
