Rapeseed Suppliers - Wholesale & Bulk

Rapeseed is sourced in low-erucic acid (LEAR/canola) and high-erucic acid (HEAR) forms, two procurement decisions that require different supplier qualifications.

Food-grade rapeseed requires verified LEAR varieties below 2% erucic acid to comply with EU regulations.

Rapeseed Origin and Supply

Canada dominates global canola production through Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba production, "canola" being the Canadian designation for low-erucic acid rapeseed varieties, harvested July to September.

The EU is in second place, with Germany, France, and Poland among the key producing member states, where most crop goes to oil extraction facilities with harvest timing concentrated in July–August.

Australian rapeseed provides Northern Hemisphere buyers with counter-seasonal supply during European off-season months, while China maintains large domestic production primarily for internal consumption.

Canadian canola typically requires GMO documentation for EU food use, while European-origin rapeseed simplifies non-GMO compliance for buyers targeting organic or non-GMO labelled products.

Buyers sourcing Brassica oilseeds often also evaluate mustard within the grains category on Nutrada.

Bulk Rapeseed

Rapeseed seeds are hygroscopic and must be stored below 9-10% moisture to prevent rancidity and mold development during storage periods. Standard packaging uses 25-50kg food-grade bags with moisture-barrier properties for 18-24 month shelf life under proper conditions. Cold-pressed rapeseed oil requires storage below 15°C and protection from light exposure to maintain fatty acid profile integrity for 12-18 months. Buyers must verify erucic acid content through supplier CoAs before ordering, as high-erucic varieties above 2% are prohibited for food use under EU Regulation 2019/1871.

Organic Rapeseed

EU Organic rapeseed is available from German, French, and Polish suppliers with full organic certification documentation. Canadian organic canola holds both USDA NOP and COR (Canadian Organic Regime) certification, though EU import requires additional organic equivalency verification. European-origin organic rapeseed eliminates GMO concerns since EU organic standards prohibit genetic modification, while Canadian organic canola may still require non-GMO identity preservation documentation for certain applications.

Rapeseed Private Label

Private label rapeseed oil is available in glass bottles, PET containers, and pouches for retail distribution. Premium cold-pressed varieties typically use dark glass bottles to protect from light degradation, while refined rapeseed oil uses clear packaging for retail visibility. MOQs for private label packaging start higher than bulk oil orders due to bottling line minimums. Buyers must specify erucic acid limits and GMO status before production starts, as these specifications affect supplier selection and certification requirements.

Rapeseed Manufacturers

European rapeseed manufacturers concentrate in Germany, France, and Poland near major production regions, offering shorter supply chains and simplified organic certification for EU buyers. Canadian canola processors provide the largest export volumes but require GMO status verification for EU food applications. Request batch-specific CoAs showing erucic acid content, glucosinolate levels, and fatty acid profiles from all suppliers. Nutrada lists GFSI-certified rapeseed suppliers from Canada and Europe, covering whole seed, cold-pressed oil, and meal products across conventional and organic supply. All orders are placed directly with certified suppliers, with no intermediary.
