The Matthaei Bakery began its journey in Marburg, Germany, in 1686. Over the next three centuries, the Matthaei family moved to the United States, where they established bakeries in Kansas City and Tacoma, Washington. They eventually developed the Roman Meal Milling Company into a nationally recognized brand and transitioned their focus toward milling and blending. Today, the fifth generation of the family, led by CEO W. Peter Matthaei, oversees the group of companies, which includes Dakota Specialty Milling, Dakota Blenders, and Roman Meal International.
