There are many food safety regulations in the EU. These food safety regulations have led to the EU having a higher standard of food safety compared to other counties around the world. There are also specific guidelines about how consumer products are labelled and packaged. The EFSA provides scientific research to both the EU countries and the European Commission when new food safety regulations are created. 

Along with working with the EFSA to create new food safety regulations, the European Commission also used the precautionary principle for food safety. This means that they act immediately if there is even a potential danger found by the EFSA.

This is important since other countries in the world do not have the same food safety regulations, which leads to more recalls and outbreaks of food poisoning.
